Ever wanted a train car of your own? Well here’s your chance!
Train enthusiasts may collect model trains galore, head out to the tracks with camera in hand to snap the perfect photo, or make cross-country travels by train, but either due to availability or lack of space, you’re not likely to find anyone who owns an actual train. But that may soon change.
An ad has been posted on amusement park Fujikyu’s website, in which an ED403 train car is being offered to “whoever wants it,” as the ad nonchalantly states. The car is on display at Gakunan-Fujioka Station in Shizuoka Prefecture, about a two-and-a-half hour journey from central Tokyo by local and bullet trains. The 40-ton ED403 was manufactured in 1966 for Matsumoto Electric Railway (currently Alpico), and was transfered to Gakunan Railways in 1972. In remained in commission until March 31, 2016.
The ad doesn’t list a price, only that a consultation with the railway company is required, and that the buyer is responsible for any fees to transport the car.
Now, you’re probably thinking, what would anyone do with an old train locomotive? It’s unlikely anyone would be able to drive it around unless they already have their own private railway, but surely there are plenty of uses for a stationary train car. How about throwing up some funky lights and turning it into a fun disco dance room? There’s also the option of refurbishing the inside to make it into your own unique living quarters.
